InfoSecter Technology

Building an appliance or software suite that interacts with IP network events? InfoSecter technology can make your product stand out. Your customers are looking for products that do more, especially automated leg work for IT staff. With an OEM license you can incorporate InfoSecter technology to do exactly that.

Does your product need to track those IP network events back to the relevant source lines in a firewall configuration? Network Geographic's InfoSecter technology lets your product perform queries on raw firewall configurations based on IP properties and firewall actions. With this your product can trace an IP event of interest back to its root cause in a firewall configuration.

What kind of products can use this technology to their advantage?

  • Network log monitoring products.
    • Correlate log entries with enabling elements of firewall configurations.
  • Network activity monitors.
    • Correlate network events with firewall configuration elements and also correlate negative events (e.g. answer the question "why do I not see packets from address A to address B?").
  • Penetration testing products.
    • A successful penetration can be traced back the firewall configuration that permitted the attack packet.
  • Firewall configuration management products.
    • Test configurations for specific behaviors before deployment.
    • Incorporate functional compliance tests (e.g. are only specific protocols allowed from the DMZ to the corporate network?)
  • Forensic discovery/change management tracking software.
    • Find versions based on relevance to an IP event of interest.
    • Enumerate version differences by firewall function, not text, even for a configuration that is yet to be deployed.
    • A history of configurations can be searched by firewall behavior (e.g., answer the question "when were packets from this network on this protocol first allowed in to my server network?").

The InfoSecter firewall analysis engine currently runs as a separate process which reads firewall configuration files and XML based configuration information and produces XML based output. It is a command line process which enables easy integration into existing products and runs on Linux and Microsoft Windows™. The engine is written in C++ for speed and efficiency.
